Today we didn’t make ANY exciting stops. We drove. And drove. And drove. We had a more leisurely morning with a continental breakfast at our hotel and didn’t leave until almost 8:30. Paul drove from there until lunch, in Socorro, New Mexico. Then I drove until almost dinner time in Durango, Colorado. Paul finished up our trip, driving to Moab.
Other than stopping for the occasional bathroom break and food, we didn’t do anything but drive. Movies, books on CD, books, the DS, a few naps, it was a thrilling day. Of course we had our little disagreements with the boys, but overall everyone did great on this stretch and we are really proud of everyone.
Along our route there were some beautiful things to see. Mountains, plateaus, winding roads, deserts, forests, we saw a little of everything. Some of the roads we took were not the most direct (shortcuts are not always shortcuts!) In the mountains the temperature was in the 60s, quite a difference from the hot day yesterday! Obviously Paul and I appreciated it more than the boys, but that’s to be expected.
Tomorrow should be a shorter driving day and we are looking forward to it.
